Gen. Ekundayo Opaleye (RTD), mni
General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye is a veteran of the Nigerian Civil War who attended reputable Civil and Military training Institutions at home and abroad, and opportuned to serve meritoriously in various capacities in his career. These training Institutions included the Prestigious Nigerian Defense Academy Kaduna, United Kingdom School of Military Engineering, Kent, United States of America Engineer School, Fort Belviour, United States Command and Staff College, Leavenworth and the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru. He was appointed the commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Engineering and later Directing Staff (Lecturer) at Army Command and Staff College, Jaji. As a brilliant sapper officer, he rose to become the Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Engineers and later Commander of the Organization of African Unity Neutral Military Observe group in Rwanda. Earlier he served in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon as Humanitarian officer, and in 1986 was appointed the Military Governor of Old Ondo State.
On retirement he was involved in the construction industry building some projects both for private sector and security Agencies. He is now an oil palm farmer operating a background integration process and its value chain including milling.
General Opaleye rtd is very active in Community relations availing the Owu Community of his vast exposure and experience. He was installed as Balogun of Erunmu Owu, and made a cabinet member of the Olowu in Council in Abeokuta his home Town. In 2020, he was elected as the Sixth National President of the Royal Union of Owu people, a cultural Association of all Owu People in Nigeria and the Diaspora. He is a founding member of the Owu Social Economy Development Council.
